A little about me
I have been working as a creative professional for over twenty years and have become extremely pofecient using Adobe's Creative software. I have been fortunate enough to expand my skills into other fields, such as motion graphics, video editing and even coding, however; my core skills reside within marketing, advertising and design.
I am at that stage in my career where - as much as I still love creating - I am also involved with business strategies, managing junior team members and projects. At this time I am looking for a new role as a creative lead, or in a management position, that will give me the opportunity to drive the look and feel of a business, which in turn will elevate its profile and increase turnover.
Can I walk the talk? Yes - of course!
During my career, I have won four awards and received much acclaim, though - as they say - you're only as good as you're last job! Design is subjective. We all have our own ideas about 'what to do'. At the end of the day its a designer who will create your press advertising. They'll create the graphics for that social media post, or even get all the marketing materials ready for that last minute promotion. It's a pivitol role. A designer is your brand guardian. Your digital guru. They are the person whom many departments will look to for assistance.I was taught as a traditional designer - using grant-enlargers, SLR cameras, type scales, rotring pens and coloured markers - I have the solid foundations of design ingrained in my soul. It's something I have always been interested in. What are now different disciplines, such as UX and UI design, was, and still is part of my everyday role as a creative. The tools have changed, but the skills remain the same - some skills that I feel are now overlooked by new designers entering the field. There are strict rules within design that you must understand, before they are broken.
Design is a two-way street. It's not all about one person doing things their way - arrogantly believing their way is the best and only way! That's why pitching campaign ideas to the board and listening is critical. As a creative, I am not closed off to the input of others, but at the same time, part of my job is thinking up ideas - putting yourself in the shoes of a consumer, or business and honestly evaluating what is on offer. I will have a 'head start' when it comes developing ideas - it's only natural. Some people are just not creative. Other people have one idea and think it's fantastic, when in reality, it may not have any legs - from which a solid strategy can be developed. This is why I have entered the world of marketing and communication strategies. As much as a designer can develop visuals, the bones behind a campaign also need detailed thought. A monitored strategy, with a conclusive objective plays a huge role within business growth.

GreenThumb Ltd
GreenThumb are the UK's largest lawn care provider, boasting a turnover exceeding £60 Million annually, they provide lawn care for domestic and commercial customers through their national franchise. For ten years I worked at their head office in north Wales where I created all their printed materials and national press advertising, whilst supporting their franchise network. I worked directly with the franchisees - providing promotional literature, advertising, signage and email campaigns. As GreebThumb's brand-guardian, I was responsible for approving external artwork, marketing campaigns, exhibition collateral and driving their branded VW camper van around the UK! I worked closely with our printing and external partners, such as National Trust, Wales Rally, Gardeners' World, the RHS, Mountfield, Hozelock and Stihl - to name a few.
ITS Ltd
ITS was an umbrella company for several other smaller online businesses - e-lottery, e-lot-bidder and uVme.com. I worked within ITS's creative arm as a print and digital designer with three other designers. Our role was to support all their websites and to provide supporting advertising, literature and email content. The last product the team launched was uVme.com - an online games site where we worked with game designers in India, web developers in Australia and the owners, who were based on the Isle of Mann and the British Virgin Islands. It was an exciting time to work for ITS. All the projects that the design department worked on were multi-lingual and required us to work with a team of translators. We launched the games site, uVme.com on time and in budget - to a very impressed affiliate network.
Freelance Designer
I ventured down the freelance path for a while, where I was fortunate enough to have a few consistent clients. I picked up additional work with Chester City Council and several design agencies in the Chester and Manchester regions. It was a rewarding time and reluctantly had to seek alternative employment, as I was spending more time trying to find new work, than actually creating billable work!
